Whenever someone comes to my interior design office to renovate their apartment interiorly, my advice is to focus on three spaces the most:
- Kitchen
- W.C
- Bathrooms
Whether it's for reuse by current residents, or a conversion with investment intent to restore to then sell for a higher price, among the three above, a luxuriously designed bathroom will have the highest impact. Trust me! According to estimates, in our lifetime, we spend an average of 250 days taking showers.
Considering all the points mentioned above, I intend to discuss in this article the topics that will give away new ideas to improve your bathroom. Stay with me until the end of the article so that, in the end, you will find a new approach for cleaning rearranging, and decorating the bath.
Wall-mounted furniture and toilets
The matter of wall wall-mounted or floor-mounted, was a precious personal experience for me. From the house I bought that had almost no wall fixtures in it, to my current house where I hang everything, it was the first expensive wrong of mine. Because I had to change all the furniture. Wall-fixed appliances mean flexibility and spatial openness at the expense of some apertures on the wall yet behind them.
In terms of bathroom layout, wall-mounted fixtures can make your bathroom appear larger, as it frees up the floor from furniture. Multitask, comfortable, and fashionable, it can help you create a modern bathroom in the shortest time. Its important advantage over the appliances that are installed on the floor is that it shows the wall height as well.
There are a variety of options on the market right now, from folding toilets to shelf-like designs that take up less space. While some bathroom cabinets have built-in storage, others are designed to look just as unassuming. But wall-mounted sinks are not just to free some room. In spacious and modern homes, their streamlined and minimal appearance is more valuable than bulky things.
Minimalist bathroom shelves and columns
What is minimalism? First of all, let’s take a look at this matter. In a very nice definition that I really like, minimalism means you just own what adds some more value to your surroundings. In this regard, you should clear off the rest.
To this credit, you should throw away everything that does not contribute to the beauty and efficiency of the space in the bathroom and spaces like the kitchen. If you have an empty pot, throw it away. If you have a large basket full of dirty towels, move it somewhere else.
Instead:
- Install a heated towel rail;
- Use large format tiles;
Use pale gray colors instead of solid white. As well as other and cream colors;
Check the quality of light in the bathroom. The bathroom should be bright enough. You are not doing research there, so the light should be soft.
All of these tips take time to coordinate with each other. In one project, we first installed a large whale-shaped bathtub, and then, like Frank Gehry, we tried to coordinate things with this body-hollow ceramic whale.
Choosing the right ceramics for the bathroom
As explained above, the use of large-size ceramic slabs can give your bathroom a luxurious effect. The larger the size of these ceramics, the smaller the grout band. In this way, the floor and the wall will have a unified and eye-catching stance. Also, ceramics that are chosen from a gray spectrum of color are a bit more fashionable.
Commonly glazed ceramics are chosen, but you can also use ceramics that use cement effects. Of course, if you have a different architectural taste of design like me.
Invest in Bathroom Furniture
A large-cut porcelain vase with expensive branches from the best variety of bamboo may cost a bit a lot, but it will give your bathroom an effect that is worth many times as much as you spend money on. Also, the bathroom is one of the two most important places to invest if you plan to, because it will pay you back at a higher profit when you sell it. If you change the tub, make sure that the new one has something to say not something to lose!
There are also minimal shelves with little decorations, such as paintings behind the glass, which are not hidden from anyone's eyes. The bathroom next to the bedroom is one of the two places where people make love the most. So the decor can be romantic as well.
Choosing the right bathroom ceramic countertop
For the countertop, which is explained at the beginning of the blog, we usually suggest some kind of wall-mounted. If you choose a wood material design, make sure that its color is in harmony with other spaces. Bathrooms are usually designed in one color. However, the combination of wooden panels with white and translucent glazed ceramics can be interesting. The design of the mirror is also important. Round or oval. In my opinion, the oval-shaped mirror is always a better choice and it makes your selfies more follower-catching!
Don’t waste the space over your toilet
Don't choose a large toilet. It occupies the space by itself. And people always get used to small toilets very quickly. Also put it in the corner, as much as possible. When you install the toilet in the middle of the bathroom, it messes up everything. Also, install a shelf above the toilet that makes the most of the space. Or you can use animal wall decor, especially if you have kids. If there is a space behind the toilet between it and the wall, you can put there a beautiful wicker basket.
